HURON — City commissioners have authorized the expenditure of about $13,300 for the city’s share of a $40,000 annual contract with Retail Strategies, a company working with the city and Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau to recruit businesses to town.
It is the second year of a three-year contract that is renewed each year.
Mayor Paul Aylward said Retail Strategies has made many business contacts, but has not had success up to now in attracting new retail stores to Huron. However, he said doing so is a long process and the decision was made to renew the contract for another year.
Meanwhile, commissioners approved the purchase of a solid waste container truck off of a Sourcewell contract from Sanitation Products of Sioux Falls for $243,668.
The truck will be used for commercial collection accounts.
