Class AA girls go 2-0 in 3-Class Shootout

SALEM — The Class AA girls won a pair of games during the 36th Annual First Dakota National Bank 3-Class Shootout, which was held Saturday.

The Class AA girls needed overtime to get past the Class A girls 89-85 in the opening game.

O’Gorman teammates Mahli Abdouch and Lucy Moore each had 19 points to lead Class AA.

Also reaching double figures were Jaidyn Dunn of Sioux Falls Jefferson with 13 points and Jaylee Hofer of Harrisburg with 12 points.

Hamtyn Heinz of Huron had three points.

Reese Terwilliger of Pierre had a team-high 11 rebounds for Class AA, while Mahlie had four assists.

Katy Vasecka of Tea Area had a game-high 21 points for Class A. Claire Sheppard of Flandreau had 16 points, while Caylin Kelly of Florence/Henry at Lily Klein of Flandreau had 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Emily Fox of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton had team highs for Class A with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Class AA moved on and recorded an 82-76 win against Class B in the final game.

Moore had 19 points to lead four players in double figures for Class AA. Claire Tereshinski of Yankton had 16 points, followed by Abby Flanagan of Harrisburg with 11 and Dunn with 10.

Heinz finished with eight points for the AA squad.

Abdouch had five rebounds, while Dunn had three steals.

Abby Aslesen of Howard led the Class B team with 18 points.

Skylar Volmer of Lyman had 14 points, while Avery Orth of Wessington Springs had 12 points and Meagan Reiner of Tripp-Delmont/Armour had 10 points.

Aslesen also had a team-high 10 rebounds for Class B.

Moore earned the MVP honors for Class AA, while Vasecka was the MVP in Class A and Aslesen was the MVP in Class B.

Boys

Using six players in double figures, Class A defeated Class AA 99-92 in the opening boys’ game.

Jaxon Wingert of Dakota Valley had 26 points to lead Class A.

Lane Tietz of Groton had 17 points, followed by Tyson Stevenson of Hamlin with 13 and Matt Anderson of Canton with 11 points.

Jack Erickson of Baltic and Jake Kuhl of West Central each had 10 points.

Tietz als had 13 rebounds and seven assists for Class A.

Naser Ismail of Sioux Falls Roosevelt had 19 points to lead Class AA. Cam Phipps of Harrisburg had 16 points, followed by Gavin Soukup of Mitchell with 15 and Brandon VanBockern of Harrisburg with 11.

CJ Gainey of Huron had eight points.

Braxton Mohr of Sioux Falls Lincoln had 10 rebounds.

Class B converted on 25 of 38 shots from 3-point range en route to a 117-113 victory against Class A in the final boy’s game.

Jackson Schauer of Faith led Class B with 32 points, which included eight 3-pointers. Kolt Koepsell of Howard had 16 points, while Tage Ortman of Canistota had 11, Nic Marshall of White River, Aiden Lieber of Mitchell Christian and Layne Cotton of Faulkton Area each had 10.

De Smet’s George Jensen had eight points in the win.

Koepsell also had a team-high 10 rebounds, while Marshall had six assists and four steals.

Tietz had 22 points to lead six players in double figures for Class A. Wingert had 21 points, followed by Stevenson with 16,

Anderson with 13, Porter Ihnen of Lennox with 13 and Erickson with 10.

Tietz also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Ismail earned the MVP honors in Class AA, while Tietz was named the MVP in Class A and Schauer was the MVP in Class B.

Daniel Mitchell of Gregory won the dunk contest.
