Corsica-Stickney pulls away for victory against De Smet

MITCHELL — An upset was caused by the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars with the first defeat of the season for the De Smet Lady Bulldogs on Sunday, when the Jaguars claimed the win, 56-40, in Class “B” girls’ basketball action on Saturday at the Mitchell Corn Palace.
The Jaguars hold an undefeated 9-0 record this season after the win, while the Lady Bulldogs fells to a record of 8-1.
Avery Broughton totaled a game-high 20 points for the Jaguars, Raven Barse followed with 14 points and led the rebounders with 13, while another 11 points were added by Courtney Menning.
Rynn Osthus led the Lady Bulldogs recording three shots from the three-point line to total 14 points, while Kennadi Buchholz tallied 10 points and seven rebounds for the team.
Redfield-Doland 63, Gregory 54
REDFIELD — Three players reached double figures for the Redfield-Doland Pheasants to assist in the team’s 63-54 victory over the Gregory Gorillas in a Class “A” boys’ basketball game held Saturday in Redfield.
The Pheasants, now 5-4 on the season, were led by Max Baloun with a game-high of 24 points and led the rebounders with 15, 17 points and 10 rebounds were tallied by Micaiah Utecht, while 11 more points were added by Kolton Haider.
Tommy Determan led the Gorillas with 19 points, while 17 points were totaled by Coy Determan also for the team. Gregory fell to a season record of 2-7 with the loss.
Redfield-Doland will host the Mt. Vernon-Plankinton Titans on Tuesday in Redfield.

De Smet 55, Colman-Egan 41
DE SMET — The De Smet Bulldogs swept the Colam-Egan Hawks, 55-41, in Class “B” boys’ basketball action on Friday.
The Bulldogs continue their winning streak since their only loss during the, second game of the season, and now hold a record of 7-1.
Kalen Garry totaled 22 points to lead the game, while also holding six rebounds, and Trevin Holland tallied another 14 points for De Smet.
The Hawks were led by Dalton Voelker with 17 points and also led the rebounders with 10, while Chase Hemmer followed with 11 points. Colam-Egan fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss.
De Smet will travel to play Hamlin on Tuesday.
