HURON — With two solid rounds of golf on her home course, Bryn Huber of Huron won the title in the girls’ division for ages 14-15 during the South Dakota Golf Association’s Junior Championships on Tuesday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
Huber, who was second in last year’s tourney, shot a 78 during the opening round on Monday to carry a four-stroke lead into the second round. She fired an 80 through the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday to win the title by four strokes with a combined score of 158.
Maiya Muller of Beresford, who carded an 84 on Monday, turned in a 78 on Tuesday to finish second to Huber with a score of 162.
Rounding out the top five in the girls’ division for ages 14-15 were Olivia Sorlie of Canton at 164, Riley Zebroski of Watertown at 166 and Quinn Dannenbring of Mitchell at 171.
Shannon McCormick of Sioux Falls edged Masy Mock of Mitchell by a stroke to defend her championship in the girls’ division for ages 16-18. After shooting 76 on Monday, she carded a 75 on Tuesday to finish at 151.
Mock had a 78 in the opening round and turned in a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 152.
Reese Jansa of Sioux Falls was third at 155, followed by Kelsey Heath of Sisseton at 161 and Emily Kolb of Sioux Falls at 162.
Karlie Bigelow of Huron was ninth with a 183 (91-92), while her younger sister, Kenya, was 11th at 193 (96-97).
Ben Daane of Rapid City won a playoff against Nash Stenberg of Sioux Falls to claim the title in the boys’ division for ages 16-18. Both golfers finished with two-day totals of 139 (70-69).
Radley Mauney of Hartford was third at 146 (73-73), while Jackson Eggebraaten of Sioux Falls was fourth at 147 (71-76) and Garett Everson of Sioux Falls was fifth at 148 (75-73).
