Posted
HURON — Eric Virrueta, 27, of Huron, was arrested early Monday morning with more than five ounces of methamphetamines in his possession.
Police received a tip from a local security company about 1 a.m. Monday, reporting a suspicious male at the Tamarac Apartment Complex.
Virrueta, who first told police his name was “Gary,” then pulled a hammer out of his coat as responding officers approached him. Following a brief struggle, a taser was deployed and the officers were able to subdue him and place him under arrest.
A search yielded a plastic bag with methamphetamine, several used syringes and a digital scale.
Virrueta has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of two-ounces or less of marijuana, possession of a controlled drug or substance, possession with intent to distribute in a drug-free zone, impersonation with intent to deceive law enforcement, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Virrueta is being held at the Regional Correction Center. A bond hearing is set for today.
