To the Editor:
Thank you to Deanna Helvik for her letter in the April 24 Plainsman.
It is a wake-up call and a warning of what can happen if parents don’t put their requests in writing.
Things like what they want when they become incapacitated, which could happen to all of us at some point in our lives.
And make sure that their next-of-kin such as their children know where these documents are kept, as well as where backup copies can be found.
The three most important documents are: 1) a will; 2) a living will and 3) a durable power of attorney.
These are not expensive and it’s easy to do all three at one time. We did, and as a parent this is our responsibility for our kids and for ourselves.
