Lower Brule, Omaha Nation to battle for DOC boys’ title

HURON — The Lower Brule Sioux move towards the championship game tonight, after a 74-54 win over the Flandreau Indian Indians on Friday night.
Shane Sazue led a trio of double figure finishers, with 36 points, five of which were three-point shots, followed by Kevin Peterson with 17, and Demas Bromwich with 10. The Sioux improve their season record to 8-6 with the win.
Caleb White led the Indians, now dropped to 11-4 on the season, with 10 points, including two three-pointers for White and Byron Freemont, as he and Makonhs Stevens finished with eight each.
The Sioux boys’ basketball team will play the championship round at 8 p.m., tonight, while the Indians are set to play at 4:30 p.m. for third.
Other semifinal
Omaha Nation edged Tiospa Zina by two points in overtime to claim the other spot in the champoinship game.
Consolation semifinals Takini 59, Marty 48
The Takini Skyhawks earned a ticket to the fifth-place game at the DOC Friday morning, with a 59-48 win over the Marty Braves.
Takini got 16 points from Dallen Crow Ghost and 13 from Michael Fire Cloud as they got out early and cruised to the win. The Skyhawks improve to 2-5 with the win.
For Marty, now 1-10, Gary Drapeau scored 15 points, Malik Cummings added 12 and Xavier Hare chipped in 11.
Marty will play for seventh place in the tournament at 10:30 this morning against Tiospaye Topa/Crazy Horse, while the Skyhawks will play Tiospaye Topa/Crazy Horse for fifth place at 1:30 this afternoon.

Crazy Horse 44, Tiospaye Topa 36
The Crazy Horse Chiefs boys’ basketball team took a 44-36 victory over the Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks in a consolation match on Friday afternoon.
Ben Chipps led the Chiefs with 21 points, one of which was a three-pointer, while Cadin Quiver added seven and Arthur Conroy finished with five. The Chiefs improve their season record to 4-8 with the win.
Jordan Hill led the Thunderhawks, now dropped to 1-9 on the season, with 17 points, while Calvin Ducheneaux finished with seven.
Crazy Horse will play 1:30 p.m. today, while Tiospaye Topa are set to play at 10:30 a.m., in consolation matches.
