HURON — Blake Peskey, a sixth-grade student at Holy Trinity School, will represent South Dakota at the National “You Be the Chemist” competition, slated for June 18 in Washington, D.C.
Peskey finished second to Matt Brown of Brandon Valley at the state competition, held April 7 in Huron, but Brown has notified YBTC Challenge organizer Dr. Magan Lewis that he will be unable to attend the national competition, elevating Peskey.
“You Be the Chemist” is a competition that encourages students in grades 5-8 to engage with chemistry concepts in their real world applications.
The state contest was co-sponsored by Dow Chemical, the United Way Heartland Region, and the Huron Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
Peskey will embark on the expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where he will face other state winners, with college scholarships going to the four finalists.
