WOLSEY — All eight of the girls’ basketball teams in the 281 Conference opened play at this year’s conference tournament in Wolsey. Here is a synopsis of Friday’s games.
Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 72, Iroquois 17
The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks girls’ basketball team opened defense of its 281 Conference Tournament title Friday afternoon, with a 72-17 win over the Iroquois Lady Chiefs.
Megan Poyer led the Blackhawks with 18 points, while Abby Doering added 14 points and led SC-W with five rebounds.
Katie Dubro scored 10 points and had four rebounds to lead Iroquois. Kaitlyn Maas also had four rebounds for the Lady Chiefs.
Sanborn Central-Woonsocket moves to the championship semifinals Monday at Huron Arena, where they will take on Wolsey-Wessington. Iroquois will play Wessington Springs in the consolation semifinals on Monday.

Wolsey-Wessington 64, Wessington Springs 53
The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds sprinted to a double-digit lead early in the second quarter and never let up, earning a 64-53 win over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans in the first round of the 281 Conference Tournament on Friday.
Kailen Krause led a trio of Lady Warbirds in double figures, with 18 points. Chantel Haider added 15 and claimed seven rebounds, while Taylor Sprecher chipped in 13 points, as W-W moves to 2-6 and will face top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in the semifinals on Monday.
Grace Gran scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Spartans, who also have a record of 2-6. Chasity Vissia chipped in 10 points for Wessington Springs, who will face Iroquois in the consolation semifinals on Monday afternoon.
