Six area competitors qualified for the short go (top 15 in each event) during the South Dakota Junior High State Rodeo Finals on Sunday in Rapid City. Making the short go, from left, were: Brady Meyer (bull riding, bareback, breakaway roping, chute dogging, goat tying); Mason Hunter (breakaway roping); August Steele (team roping); Charleigh Brewer (barrel racing, goat tying, pole bending); Tia Esser (breakaway roping, pole bending, goat tying); and Candice Aamot (goat tying). The top four in points during the four regional rodeos, two state fianls rodeos and short go qualified for the National Junior High Rodeo Finals, which will be held June 19-25 in Perry, Ga. Meyer was second in bull riding and Brewer was second in barrel racing. Brewer also won the Rookie All-Around title.
