Huron High School

One of the new classes that Huron High School offered this year was a semester-long course set to introduce education to students who are interested in going into the field: Introduction to Education and Training.

The course was broken into 4 units: Why Education?, What Makes a Good Educator?, History of Education, and Legal Responsibilities. Each unit was built to give students a glimpse into the education career cluster to see if education is a path in which they want to take.

The students got to create a presentation in which they laid out their career paths over the next 10 years, role play classroom management, teach a lesson on the history of education, and also look at ethical scenarios that people may face every day in education.

While the classroom work was fun, the overall favorite part of the class was that the students got to visit every building in the district to see all the possible careers within the education field. They first went to the Arena to see all the different offices that make up the backbone of the Huron School District. Then they got to be in classrooms at all the schools: McKinley Learning Center, Buchanan K/1 Center, Madison 2/3 Center, Washington 4/5 Center and the Huron Middle School.

During these visits they got to not only observe but interact with the students at each level to experience all that Huron School District has to offer.
