HURON — Jon Schouten is entering his first year as the head coach for the Huron Tiger boys’ basketball program, as announced at a special meeting held by the school board on Friday afternoon.
After spending his first year in Huron as the ninth-grade girls coach, Coach Schouten has been an assistant coach in the boys program for the past five seasons, serving one year each as the fresman and sophomore coach. He has spent the last three seasons as the junior varsity boys’ coach and varsity assistant.
A 2007 graduate of James Valley Christian, Coach Schouten and his wife Hannah moved back to Huron after graduating from Northwestern College, in Orange City, Iowa. During his time at Northwestern, he spent three years as a student coach and one year as the head men’s JV coach for Head Coach Kris Korver.
