ABERDEEN —A strong second half propelled the Huron football team to its second win of the season on Friday.
The Tigers scored 19 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 25-15 victory against Aberdeen Central in the Hub City Bowl at Swisher Field.
“The guys were prepared for almost all stituations that they saw,” Huron coach Michael Schmitz said. “They came out with great energy throughout the entire game.”
Scoring was scarce in the opening half, as both teams only reached the end zone once.
Huron put the first points on the board in the opening quarter, when Kobe Busch hauled in a 33-yard scoring strike from Jett McGirr. The extra-point kick was blocked, leaving the Tigers with a 6-0 lead with 4:21 remaining in the quarter.

The Tigers added to their advantage with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by McGirr to make it 18-7 following a failed conversion atempt.
Chipper Shillingstad capped the scoring for Huron with a 44-yard punt return for a touchdown with 5:58 remaining in the game. An extra-point kick by Thacher Dramstad made it 25-7.
Aberdeen Central put its final points on the board just 51 seconds later. Jackson Rohlfs hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Austin Huff with 5:17 remaining in the game.
The Tigers amassed 114 yards on the ground on 41 carries and gained 241 yards through the air, as McGirr converted on 10 of 19 passing attempts.
Shillingstad finished with 12 carries for 52 yards, while McGirr rushed for 35 yards on 16 carries and Schiltz had 10 carries for 28 yards.

Schiltz was the defensive leader for the Tigers with eight tackles, including a sack. Blake Larsen had five tackles and a sack, while Shillingstad had a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery.

“They really played for each other and supported each other through the entire game,” Schmitz said. “I am extremely proud of how the team did.
“We have work in front of us, but we will hit the ground running this week,” he said.
Chris Weber had 21 carries for 112 yards to lead Aberdeen Central. Austin Huff was 11 of 24 passing for 143 yards, but had a pair of interceptions.
