The teams are set for next week’s Class “A” and “B” boys’ state basketball tournaments.

At the “B” in Aberdeen’s Barnett Center, top seeded White River (21-2) will take on No. 8 Viborg-Hurley, 18-5, which upset Faith to earn a trip to the tournament in the opener at noon. The second game of the afternoon will find fourth seeded Wessington Springs, 22-1, seeking to avenge its only loss of the season, against No. 5 Howard, who is 20-3.

The evening session finds the second seeded and three-time defending state champion De Smet Bulldogs (20-3) taking on No. 7 seeded Gregory, at 19-4, and the opening round concludes with No. 3 Castlewood, 20-3, taking on sixth-seeded Leola/Frederick, who is 22-1.

Including the Bulldogs, four teams from last year are back in the “B” this time around.

In the “A” tournament, set for Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City, top seeded Sioux Falls Christian, the only undefeated boys’ team in the state at 23-0, will take on Vermillion, 16-7, in the opener at 1 p.m. CDT. The second game finds No. 4 Pine Ridge, 21-1, facing fifth-seeded and defending champion Dakota Valley, 20-3.

In the evening session, the second-seeded Hamlin Chargers, who finished third at last year’s tournament and carry a 20-3 record into this year’s tournament, will face No. 7 Groton Area, 19-4.

And the nightcap will find No. 3 Sioux Valley, at 21-2, taking on sixth-seeded Rapid City Christian, who is 20-3.

Three of the top four teams from last year are back in this year’s Class “A” State Tournament.
