Teams of pheasant hunters and hunting dogs took to the field on Thursday, braving cold temperatures and a biting wind, as the first day of the Bird Dog Challenge took flight. Curt and Becky Kempf donated the hunting venue, south and west of Huron, near Virgil. Pheasants are placed in the field and the teams are released into the field. Scoring is a combination of time, flushing the bird and, of course, coming out of the trip with a successful hunt. The competion, which is part of this weekend’s Ringneck Festival, will continue today.
