Tiebreaker gives De Smet boys' title at JVC Invitational

HURON — With a better score from its fourth golfer, De Smet won the boys’ team title during the James Valley Christian Invitational held Tuesday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

The Bulldogs and Ipswich finished with scores of 247, but a 12-stroke difference between the scores of the fourth golfer for both teams handed the title to De Smet.

Chester was third at 256, followed by Webster at 263 and Howard at 268.

Doland was sixth in the 10-team field with a 280, followed by Wessington Springs at 282, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket at 293 and JVC at 297.

Luke Peterson of Ipswich used a scorecard tiebreaker to earn the medalist honors over Kalen Garry of De Smet. They both finished with scores of 76.

Blaize Amdahl of Wester was third at 81, followed by Chet Peterson of Ipswich at 82 and Rett Osthus of De Smet at 83.

Blake Larson of Wessington Springs was ninth at 87, while De Smet teammates Kasen Janssen and Colt Wilkinson had scores of 88 to claim the No. 11 and 12 spots, respectively.

Teagan Mason led Doland with a 90 to finish 16th, while Gabe Waldner led JVC with a 94 to finish 20th.

Deubrook claimed the girls’ team title with a 292, while Howard was second at 315. JVC was third at 343, followed by De Smet at 343, Wessington Springs at 352 and Webster at 358.

Deubrook teammates Bailey Landmark and Abby Olson were first and second, respectively, in the final girls’ standings with scores of 92 and 96.

Jadyn McDonald of Chester was third at 98, followed by Mia Glanzer of Howard at 99 and Jacie McCune of De Smet at 101.

Sophia Borras of Wessington Springs was eighth at 105, followed by Dayton Easton of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket at 105 and Belle Niederbaumer of JVC at 110.
