Tigers finish seventh at ESD meet

SIOUX FALLS —  Huron finished seventh during the Eastern South Dakota Conference Boys’ Tennis Tournament, which concluded Tuesday at Huether Family Match Pointe.

Harrisburg, which had two individual champions and two doubles champions, claimed the ESD title with 335.5 points.

Yankton was second at 310.5, followed by Brandon Valley at 209.5 and Mitchell at 184.

Rounding out the field of teams were Watertown at 172, Pierre at 28.5, Huron at 19, Aberdeen Central at 18.5 and Brookings at 12.

Hser Wah was highest finisher for Huron, winning the consolation championship in fourth flight singles.

After suffering a 10-3 setback to Will Jensen of Brandon Valley in the opening round, Wah recorded an 8-6 win against Joey Meester of Watertown to reach the consolation title match.

Wah then defeated Weston Northrup of Pierre 8-4 to claim the consolation championship.

The No. 1 and 3 doubles teams also reached the consolation finals for the Tigers.

After suffering a 10-1 setback in the opening round, Dah Christ Moo and Maner Htoo rebounded with an 8-6 win against Aberdeen Central to reach the consolation finals.

They suffered an 8-2 loss to Mitchell in their final match.

Huron’s No. 3 doubles team of Matthew Thin and Say Poe were edged 10-7 by Harrisburg in the opening round. They responded with an 8-0 win against Brookings in the consolation semifinals.

Watertown secured the consolation title in No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 victory against Thin and Poe.

The Tigers close the season at the Class A State Tournament on May 13-14 in Rapid City.
