MITCHELL — The Huron Tiger Dance team took title in both Hip Hop and Jazz and finished second in Pom to earn second place overall at Thursday’s Eastern South Dakota Conference Cheer and Dance competition at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
Overall, Brandon Valley averaged 271.33 to repeat as conference champions, narrowly edging the Tigers, who finished with 267.5. Yankton was third in the dance competition with 241.5 points.
Brandon Valley won the Pom discipline by 21 points, padding their average. Huron’s wins in Jazz and Hip Hop were by one-and-a-half and 12 points, respectively. Yankton took the title in Kick with 231 points.
The Cheer title on the day went to Harrisburg with 269 points, while Brookings finished second and Brandon Valley took third. Huron finished fifth in the ESD Cheer competition with a score of 222.5.
Next up for all teams is the State Cheer and Dance Championships, set for Oct. 26 in Aberdeen.
