HURON — The top-ranked, undefeated O’Gorman Lady Knights came to the Huron Arena after winning their previous game by nearly 60 points. The Huron Tigers were able to avoid that fate, but they still were steamrolled 69-46 Thursday night.
The Lady Knights’ highlight in the first quarter was their exceptional control of the game, getting the Tigers out of position on offense and defense. That led to a host of offensive rebounds for the Lady Knights and turnovers for the Tigers. O’Gorman finished the opening session with a 21-5 lead.
Getting down heavy early had the Tigers girls firing early and often, and while Alexis Feenstra hit three deep shots in the quarter, the rest of the team was cold while the Lady Knights continued to clean up the offensive glass whenever they did miss.
The Lady Knights came out of halftime hitting their shots, using sharp shooting to open up their lead to as many as 28 points. O’Gorman continued to shoot well in the final period, reaching a peak lead of 31 points in the middle of the fourth quarter just before both teams emptied their benches to finish the game.
O’Gorman earned their eighteenth win of the season with a balanced attack that saw four players reach double figures in scoring. Sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek led the Lady Knights attack with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Carly Kunkel added 14 points and Isabelle Moore dropped in 12 points for O’Gorman. Emma Ronsiek led a stout O’Gorman rebounding attack with 13 boards.
