BROOKINGS — After a six-year hiatus from the Class “A” State girls’ basketball tournament, the fourth-seeded Vermillion Tanagers ended atop the mountain Saturday night, with a 60-54 win over the No. 6 Tea Area Titans at the Dacotah Bank Center.

Top seeded Sisseton rebounded from only its second of the season to blow out second-seeded Sioux Falls Christian in the third-place contest and Flandreau, the tournament’s No. 3 seed pasted fifth-seeded Mahpiya Luta for fifth place.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton downed Hanson for 7th place in the tournament.

The All-Tournament team included Taylor Reuvers and Chandler Cleveland from Vermillion; Katie Vasecka and Mara Grant of Tea Area; Krista Langager and Chloe Langager of Sisseton, Avery Reitz of Sioux Falls Christian; Lily Klein and Lizzie Pavlis of Flandreau; Ashlan Blount of Mahpiya Luta; Emilee Fox and Reagan Rus of Mount Vernon/Plankinton. They took the lead for good on the second of two consecutive three-point baskets from Kasey Hanson, who, according to coach Jon Brooks, only recently was cleared to play following an ACL injury last summer.
