Wildcats win title at Pheasant Fall Classic

REDFIELD — With 2-0 victories against Redfield-Doland and Miller in the gold pool, Northwestern emerged with the championship during the Pheasant Fall Volleyball Classic on Saturday.
Redfield-Doland defeated Miller to claim the second spot with a 2-0 win against Miller.
Madalyn Groft of Northwestern was named at the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Groton Area won the silver pool with 2-1 victories against Belle Fourche and Beresford. Beresford finished fifth with a 2-0 win against Belle Fourche.
Waverly-South Shore used 2-1 victories against Wolsey-Wessington and Webster Area to win the bronze pool. Webster Area defeated defeated Wolsey-Wessington 2-0 to finish eighth.
Selected to the all-tournament team were Kennedy Fast and Rylie Gall of Redfield-Doland; VonnaGail Schlechter and Kadye Fernholz of Miller; Payton Maine and Gia Gengerke of Groton Area; Hannah Nelson of Beresford; Alli Kranz of Waverly-South Shore; Peyton Groft, Madalyn Groft and Caitlyn Fischbach of Northwestern; and Sierra Ward of Belle Fourche.

HURON — James Valley Christian evened its record at 9-9 with a 3-1 win against Aberdeen Christian on Friday.
The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the match with set wins of 25-14 and 25-17. Aberdeen Christian, which is still searching for its first win against a varsity opponent after 10 matches, avoided the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set, but JVC closed the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.
Marissa Brondsema was perfect on 10 attacks with three kills for the Lady Vikings, while Angie Zuccaro was 10 of 14 hitting with four kills and Alaina Dale was 7 of 14 spiking with six kills.
Zuccaro also was 21 of 21 serving with two aces and AbbyRose Miller was 16 of 17 serving with a pair of aces.
Bekah Williams was 104 of 114 setting for JVC with 21 assists. Miller was 33 of 36 digging, while Dale had 10 blocks.
The Lady Vikings will host Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in a 281 Conference matchup on Tuesday.
