Zell ties for fifth at state in all-around for Huron

ABERDEEN — Huron senior Erica Zell capped her high school gymnastic career with a top-5 finish in the all-around at the Class AA State Gymnastics Meet on Saturday.
Zell used a score of 36.15. which is just .65 points off the Huron High School all-around record she set early this season, to share the fifth spot Saturday with Mikah Moser of Pierre.
“Erica had a great state meet. She was consistent all season,” Huron coach Julie King said. “She finished her final meet with success. I am very proud of her performances.
“She is an amazing athlete that strives for perfection,” she said.
Zell earned medals in four of the five events, including the all-around, for the Tigers.
The top finish for Zell came on the balance beam, where she used a score of 9.1 to finish fourth.
Zell tied for seventh on the vault with a score of 9.3, which was her best score in the event this season and matched her HHS record score that she established as a junior.
Zell also turned in a score of 9.275 to finish eighth in the floor exercise.
The lone event where Zell did not finish in the top 15 was the bars, where she finished 18th with a score of 8.475.
Kenzee Danielson of Harrisburg used a score of 38.6 to edge Myah Morris of Watertown for the top spot in the all-around. Morris finished with a score of 38.2.
Danielson took the top spot on the balance beam with a 9.65, while Morris won on the vault with a 9.95.
Payton Steffensen of Sioux Falls O’Gorman claimed first in the floor exercise with a 9.725, while Brooke Bollinger of Watertown won the bars with a 9.4.
