City accepts Derksen bid for crop lease

HURON — Recently-purchased farm ground on the southeast part of town went to bid under city purview for the first time Monday night, with the winning bid submitted by John Derksen of Huron to farm the ground for the 2024 season.

Derksen submitted a crop lease bid of $186.50 per acre for a total bid of $13,707.75. He was one of three bids for the crop lease. This bid was approved by the commission.

The commission also:

• Approved a raffle filed by Huron Elks Lodge No. 444 at 460 Dakota Ave. S. on April 24.
• Approved a raffle filed by Beadle County Sportsman’s Club at the Izaak Walton Clubhouse on April 20.
• Approved posting internally for a Solid Waste Maintenance 1 position and advertising if necessary.
• Accepted the voluntary resignation of Cara Hines, 911 telecommunicator.
• Approved the posting and advertising for a 911 telecommunicator position.
