HURON — “Five Nights of Fright,” haunted house began celebrating Halloween, Friday night at the Dakota Market Place. The haunted house is hosted by the Huron Baseball Association (HBA) and is sponsored by Shoe Sensation.
This is the first year the haunted house has been held at this location. The items to build it were donated by an individual, plus the Cavour and Huron Fire Departments, who previously operated the Huron Community Haunted House at the Fairgrounds.
Amanda Peterson, HBA mom, and Jessica Wagner, Shoe Sensation Store Manager, organized this Halloween event as a fundraiser for the HBA, to help pay for uniforms and tournaments. Donations of personal hygiene products also give haunted house goers a discount on the admission fee, to aid the Colon family in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria.
“Donations will be given to the family of Rey Colon, who was a coach for the HBA last summer,” said Wagner.

Haunted house hours today are from 2 to 5 p.m., and is smaller child friendly, Monday and Tuesday hours are 7 to 10 p.m. The first 40 adults to enter the house each night will receive a discount card to Shoe Sensation.
“We plan to do this every year,” Wagner said. “Thank you to the Huron and Cavour Fire Departments for giving us the items to build the haunted house. We are excited to give back to the community with the funds raised, and thank all the parents, players of HBA and volunteers for helping make this happen.”
