HURON — Huron City Commissioner Rich Bragg read an announcement from the solid waste department during Monday’s meeting that impacts all residents of the city. He explained that the solid waste department would begin picking up green bins on Wednesday only beginning this Wednesday, March 13, and continuing through April 17.

Beginning the week of April 22, green bin pick up will occur on your regularly scheduled garbage and recycling pick up day.

Bragg also stated that the drop site is currently closed as they evaluate the condition of the ground around the concrete pad at the new location on the south side of the road. Residents can still come through the dump site and be directed where to deposit yard waste until the new location is ready.

The commission also approved a payment request to Ferguson Waterworks for $92,522.36 for the water meter replacement.

Water and sewer superintendent Rob Rieger explained that there are “around 300” meters left to replace, which means 91% of the city’s meters have been changed at this point.

Commissioners approved going to bid for the 2024 concrete crack sealing in the city and setting the bid open date for April 2.
