To the Editor:

October 1-7 is National 4-H Week. I am 14 years old and this is my 7th year in the Heartland 4-Hers Club. My favorite project and the one I have learned a lot in this year is Rabbits. I showed three rabbits, earning all purples at county level along with earning grand champion junior showman at county.

On the state level, I only showed two of my rabbits and earned one purple and one blue and I even earned grand champion junior showman. I have shown rabbits and done showmanship since I started 4-H and have become comfortable getting up in front of a judge and being confident in myself. I feel this will be very beneficial in school as well as in a future career. 

Showmanship has taught me to keep pushing through a situation regardless of mistakes. This is an important skill in any career because you can’t always go back and redo something after it is already done.

No matter what the results are, I am always proud of myself and the effort that I have put forth. The Beadle County Extension Office (605-353-8436) can help you learn how to get involved in 4-H and answer all your questions.
