HURON — An incident involving a male juvenile, which began at the Colonial Apartments at 10th and Minnesota, and prompting a lockdown at all school buildings in the city, was wrapped up by mid-afternoon, according to the Huron Police Department.
Following a phone call to dispatch at 9:16 a.m., law enforcement was sent to the Colonial Apartments.
At noon, HPD sent out a release, stating that it was seeking assistance in locating a 15-year old male, wearing dark clothing and carrying a duffle bag.
A short time later, reports came in noting a strong law enforcement presence at the Tamarac Apartments at 18th and Arizona.
By mid-afternoon, the situation had been resolved and the police deparment lifted the lockdown at the school buildings to facilitate the regular dismissal times.
The lockdown of the affected apartment at 10th and Minnesota remained in effect, however.
Late in the afternoon, the HPD noted that the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was handling the investigation.
Attorney General Marty Jackley confirmed that DCI was actively investigating a homocide.
Jackley added that one person had been detained in the incident and that one person was deceased.
No further information was available from DCI or the HPD, but will be released when available.
