HIGHMORE — Helen M. Turner, 93, of Highmore, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at Highmore Health in Highmore.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 14, at the Church of Christ in Highmore. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Blunt with a luncheon and fellowship afterwards at the Blunt Senior Center.
Helen Marie (Schein) Smith Turner was born June 22, 1924, in Elmira, Ore. to Emil and Blanche May (Haynes) Schein. She worked at the Kazer Shipyard in Vancouver, Wash. as a welder on aircraft carriers during World War II.
She was united in marriage to Aubrey Smith October 30, 1944. They purchased a farm near Harrold in 1953. People enjoyed her cooking, especially her fried chicken and pies.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Harlan (Sharon) Smith of Harrold, Yvonne (Michael) Broadhurst of Tomasina, Madagascar, Bonnie Henley of Renton, Wash., Barbara Leesman of Blunt, and Vickie (Ray) Mazurek of Comanche, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; and son-in-law, Rickey Leesman.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice at Asera Care, 528 N. Sycamore Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57110.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Helen’s arrangements.
