To the Editor:

I appeal to Senator Thune, Senator Rounds and Representative Johnson. It is your duty to protect our country from a fascist takeover. We defeated fascism during WWII. The threat of fascism today is real.

After losing the election in 2020, Donald Trump attempted to remain in power by any means possible, including fostering a violent attack on the Congress as it was certifying the election results,

Trump has falsely claimed that the U.S. elections are rigged, calling into question our election system, which is the freest and fairest in the world. Now that he has been indicted by both federal and state authorities, Trump is calling our judicial system into question. Trump makes these claims in spite of the fact that our system of justice is the best in the world.

Trump has spewed fascist rhetoric and has said that he intends to make the government into his personal tool of vengeance if he becomes President again. If Trump is the Republican nominee, he will claim victory regardless of the vote.

As our federal representatives and as prominent Republican leaders, it is your duty to ensure that Trump is not your party’s nominee for President in 2024. It’s not enough to support someone else in the primaries. You must denounce Trump and his fascist agenda.

More than one million Americans were killed or wounded and in excess of 16 million Americans served in WWII to defeat fascism. Their sacrifice must not be in vain.
