Joyce was born on Feb. 25, 1934, in Friendship, Okla., to Andrew and Mary Lemaster. Joyce attended school until the eighth grade.

On Dec. 15, 1950, she married Homer Jewel Rogers. Joyce and Homer had three sons: Homer Jr., Michael Ray, and Jesse Lee. Joyce and Homer lived in many different places in the early years of their marriage such as New York, Canada, and Wisconsin before settling in Wessington Springs. Joyce was not one to sit still. She and Homer owned several businesses that she ran: Rainbow Café, Idle Hour and the Virgil Bar. In the late ’80s Joyce became an EMT and then moved into working at the Weskota Manor until she retired.

Besides always working, Joyce was continually opening her home to her sons’ friends, nieces, nephews and many, many grandkids and their friends. If you needed a place to stay, a meal to eat or an ear to listen, that was always Joyce. One of her more famed skills was cooking and baking. Biscuits and gravy, chocolate chip cookies, fudge and mountain oysters were her specialty.
