HURON — To answer a public forum presented to the commissioners at Monday evening’s Huron City Commission meeting, an announcement was made by the commission that the yard waste and tree branch drop site is now open for the season.
Huron residents are reminded that the location has shifted to the South side of the road from where the drop-off area was on Fourth Street, and that tree branches should be smaller than three inches in diameter.
City residents are also reminded that green bin pickup for yard waste will be on Wednesday citywide through April 17. After that date, the green bin will be picked up on regular garbage day.
A plat of property owned by Montana Walcott was presented to the commission to be platted into two outlots. This was approved. City planner Barry Cranston expressed that as part of the plat, the right-of-way with Rushmore Avenue in that area was also resolved.
A quit claim deed for Southtown Third addition lot five, block two was approved to transfer to Greater Huron Development for purposes of sale to a buyer.
Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau President & CEO Laurie Shelton presented a contract with Place Labs, Inc. for database access to be shared among multiple entities in the city. The city’s share of the database access will be up to $2,600 and provide the city with information on the demographics of visitors, retail recruitment opportunities, and data on traffic to and from Huron. This was approved.
Commissioners also:
• Approved the appointment of election workers for the city and school election on April 9.
• Approved the promotion of Josh Nelson from Park Maintenance 2 to Park Maintenance 3.
• Approved the promotion of Zachary Weber from Police Sergeant to Police Captain, effective April 21.
