HURON — The Huron boys’ soccer team had three members selected to the All-Eastern South Dakota Conference team, which was announced Monday.

Earning the honor for the Tigers were freshman Ronaldo Pineda, junior Tah Hey Lawla Htoo and junior Sha M Sher.

“I am very proud of these guys for the nominations. They are all very deserving,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “We had a great season finishing in third place in the ESD. They boys really came together at the end of the season and exceeded my expectations.

“I wasn’t sure how the season would go with playing mostly freshman and sophomores, but they stepped it up when they needed to,” she said. “I was happy with the leadership our four juniors provided and look to have another great season next year.”

Sher, who is a 3-year starter on varsity for the Tigers, recorded seven goals and had three assists.

“He is one of our team captains and leads by example every day in practice and games,” Branaugh sadi. “Sha Sher plays striker and uses his speed to generate offensive for our team.”

Htoo also served as a team captain for Huron, playing the center back position on defense.

“He makes great stops on defense and is a vocal leader for our young team,” Branaugh said.
Pineda had a goal and five assists this season for the Tigers.

“We changed his position three different times and when we changed it the last time, things started clicking for him and the team,” Branaugh said. “He is a source of offense for our team and capable of making great plays.”

Sophomore Abner Garcia Garcia received honorable mention for the Tigers on the All-ESD squad as a defender.

“He sees the field and is always thinking one step ahead,” Branaugh said. “He has the ability to push the ball forward and even make offensive runs at times.”

Huron finished with a 5-3 record in the ESD this season, finishing third behind Aberdeen Central and Yankton, which shared the conference title with records of 7-1.

Brandon Valley was fourth at 4-3-1, followed by Brookings at 4-4, Pierre at 3-4-1, Harrisburg at 2-5-1, Watertown at 2-6 and Mitchell at 0-8.
