SIOUX FALLS — Kathleen Amundson, 97, formerly of Huron, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.
Kathleen was born on October 9, 1923, in Aberdeen, N.C., to William and Geneva Carpenter. She graduated from Candor, North Carolina High School in 1940 and from St. Leo’s School of Nursing in 1945.
On January 13, 1946, Kathleen married Amos Amundson in Jackson Springs, N.C. They made their home in Huron, where they opened up Dakota Alignment in 1947, and Motive Parts and Machine Co (NAPA). Kathleen worked as a nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Huron and also did private duty nursing.
Kathleen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron and Chapter AN of P.E.O. She loved playing bridge with her friends. Kathleen also enjoyed playing gin rummy with her family.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Mary (Tom) Sandve of Big Stone Lake, Valerie Amundson of Sioux Falls, and Lois (Mike) Hieb of Huron; five grandchildren, Rev. Chamie (Tim) Delkeskamp, Jack (Mary) Alexander, Kate (James) Seale, Karlie (Layton) Cooper, and Matt (Amber) Sandve; eight great-grandchildren, Aidan, Jude, Hannah, Abby, Max, Steve, Liam, and Hudson; and special friends, Mike and Clela Henson and family.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Amos in 2008.
Private Committal service will take place at the SD Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, officiated by Kathleen’s granddaughter, Reverend Chamie Delkeskamp.
