Lorraine Wharton, 83, of Huron

HURON — Lorraine P. Wharton, age 83, of Huron, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. 
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, with burial in the St. Martin’s Cemetery at Huron. Her visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Lorraine P. Dargatz, the daughter of John and Anna (Block) Dargatz, was born on October 19, 1935, in a cabin on Enemy Swim Lake near Waubay, SD. She attended school and graduated from Huron High School. Lorraine was a very kind-hearted person, having opened her home to 35 foster kids over her lifetime. She also provided childcare services for many years.
Lorraine married William Wharton on June 1, 1954, at the St. Martin Church in Huron, SD.
Lorraine was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.  Lorraine enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. She also loved crocheting, word search puzzles, her rose garden, and her cats.
Grateful for having shared in Lorraine’s life are her husband of almost 65 years, William of Huron; her children, Darrell (Jean) Wharton of Huron, Wayne (special friend, Susie Hayes) Wharton of Denver, Colo., Cindy (Brian) Neuharth of Wolsey, Tammy (Scott) Slepikas of Huron, Kristy (Doug) Anderson of Sioux Falls, and Scott Wharton of Huron; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Dargatz of Huron, and Jerry (Jan) Dargatz of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Bernice (Don) Grogan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Elaine Dargatz of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Janet Wharton and Pam McAloon; brother, Gene Dargatz; and daughter-in-law, Carla Wharton.
