HOWARD — Orrin James Thompson, 91, of Howard, formerly of Fedora and Rapid City, passed away at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, at Endeavor Presbyterian Church in Fedora. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Artesian. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 7p.m. at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
Orrin James Thompson was born September 2, 1927, near Fedora to Robert and Emily (Cundy) Thompson. He graduated from Fedora High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Betty Hosmer June 26, 1949. The couple then farmed. He started doing electrical work and soon owned an electrical business, retiring in 1994
He was a member of Glenview Congregational Church and a friend of the Endeavor Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, camping and traveling with the family. After retiring he became involved in genealogy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Larry (MaryAnn) Thompson of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Robert (Susan) Thompson of Rapid City, Steve (Karen) Thompson of Blair, Neb.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delores Thompson of Brandon; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dean, Cecil, Leta Trusty, and Goldie Jones.
