ABERDEEN — Richard “Dick” Jensen, 84, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 26, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street in Aberdeen.
Richard Dale Jensen was born February 23, 1934, at Aberdeen to Dallas and Verle (Fuhrman) Jensen. Dick was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he taught the second-grade Sunday school class and was a member of Aide Association for Lutherans. He was active in Promise Keepers, Heartland Men of Integrity, and men’s Bible studies. He was also a Cub Scout Leader. Dick used his carpentry skills in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Dick was a founding member of the Aberdeen Rural Fire Department and held many offices including Fire Chief for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping and watching John Wayne movies.
Grateful for having shared Dick’s life are his wife of 61 years, Darlys of Aberdeen; three children, Dean (Darcy) Jensen of Lakewood, Colo., Dale (Deb) Jensen of Aberdeen, and DeAnn Arnott (Russ Root) of Huron; his son-in-law, Wayne Gallipo of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Travis (Lisa) Gallipo, Eric Gallipo (Kristy Gislason), Haley Jensen, Grant Jensen, Brandi Jensen, Sadie Jensen, Landon Jensen, Becca Arnott, Ashley Arnott, and Cammie Arnott; and his great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Stella, Cody, Riley, Wesley, Harrison, Destiny, Mason, Addilyn and Alyse.
Preceding Dick in death are his parents, Dallas and Verle; daughter, Debbie Gallipo; and his siblings, Jerry Jensen, and Joy Janes.
