HURON — Rita Carrera, 53, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.
Her memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present during that time.
Rita was born May 13, 1969, at Fresno, Calif., and was raised with her siblings by their parents, Jesus and Juanita Garza. She grew up in Texas and received her education there.
=On March 10, 1986, Rita married Jorge Antonio Ramos, Sr. at Edinburg, Texas. To this union, three children were born, Jessenia, Jorge, Jr. and Eduardo. Rita worked as a correctional officer and attended nursing school at nights. As a family, they worked with a migrant workforce, traveling the nation working in fields of potatoes, strawberries and beets.
In 2005, Rita moved to Huron. On Sept. 15, 2006, Rita married Raquel Carrera Vasquez at Huron. She worked at LSI until a fall caused her early retirement.
Family was everything to Rita. She cherished the time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed looking over her children and grandchildren, and felt blessed they lived close by.
Rita enjoyed cooking, taking road trips, shopping rummage sales and dollar stores, watching movies and Netflix series, and creating masterpieces with adult coloring books.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesus; one brother, Julian; and one step-son, Cristan.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her mother, Juanita of Mercedes, Texas; her husband, Raquel Carrera of Huron; three children, Jessenia (Lemuel Hernandez) Martinez of Huron, Jorge Ramos, Jr. of Sioux Falls and Eduardo Ramos of Huron; five grandchildren, Jesus, Shayla, Adelynn, Eduardo, Jr. and Xavier; five step-children and their families, Jose, Willian, David, Victoria and Katerine; and five siblings, Jesus, Lupita, Becky, Spider and Oddie.
Left to cherish the memory of her friendship are Jessica Wagner and her children of Huron; and one sister-in-law, Glenda Donis of Sioux Falls.
