PLATTE — The Dakota Valley Panthers swept two of the three dance categories, en route to the Dance championship, while Bon Homme edged both Wagner and Dakota Valley for the Cheer title Saturday, at the Platte/Geddes Cheer and Dance Invitational.

Dakota Valley easily took the “Jazz” portion of the Dance competition, scoring 186.5 points to outdistance runner-up Northwestern, a distant second with 108.5. The Panthers also took the “Pom” discipline, with 188.5, edging Beresford who was second with 184. Beresford prevailed in “Hip-Hop,” scoring 164.5 to best host Platte-Geddes/Dakota Central’s 156.5 score.

Overall in Dance, Dakota Valley had an average of 187.5 to defeat Beresford by 13 points with P-G/DC a distant third with 152.25.

Bon Homme scored 164 points to claim the Cheer portion of the competition, and the Cavaliers need all of them, as Wagner scored 162 and Dakota Valley finished with 161. Wolsey-Wessington finished just off the podium in sixth place, with a score of 147, one point behind Dell Rapids, while Redfield finished 10th on the day, with 110 points.

It was the regular season finale for all schools, as the S.D. Dance championships are set for Friday and Saturday in Brandon, while the Cheer state championships will take place on Saturday, also in Brandon.
