WESINGTON SPRINGS — Alvin Dwayne Edwards, 90, of Wessington Springs, passed away Sunday June 11, 2017, at the Weskota Manor Avera.
His memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday June 17, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites by the Wessington Springs American Legion Post. A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Alvin Dwayne Edwards was born November 2, 1926 at Henry. At 14, he left the Children’s Home Society in Sioux Falls and made his home with Harry and Esther Meyer. He joined the U.S. Army serving as WWII was ending. He was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, he returned to Jerauld County where he farmed and raised Black Angus cattle.
He was united in marriage Audree Louise Hawk September 9, 1948. Together they built a life on the farm and lived there until they retired and moved to Wessington Springs. He was one of 14 children and became aquainted with all of them during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife; children, Joan (Jim) Keyser of Wessington Springs, Randy (Cathie) Edwards of Rapid City, Phillip (Lisa) Edwards of Wessington Springs, and David (Kristi) Edwards of Huron; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
