HURON — Darwin R. Klukas, 88, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, April 03, 2018, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 7, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran’s Council. Burial to follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Welter Funeral Home.
Darwin R. Klukas was born October 31, 1929, in Wessington Springs to Rudolf and Lydia (Kreuger) Klukas. He grew up in the Alpena area and graduated from Alpena High School in 1947.
He was united in marriage to Wynona M. Ochsner November 11, 1951. He served with the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged November 4, 1953. He then joined the South Dakota National Guard putting in 30 years of service. He worked at Armour’s Packing plant for many years. He was a member of the American Legions, the VFW, and the Huron Lion’s.
He is survived by his children, Lorin Klukas of Sarasota, Fla., Linnea (Kenny) Putnam of Rapid City, Kerry (Jim) Rieck of Huron, and Lonna (Henry) Fulda of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Rodger (Sharon) Klukas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; siblings, Delores, Lavira, Addis; and nephew Dorin Koth.
