Ingalls, Kan. — Donald “Dean” Barrie Jr, 63, formerly of Huron, died Saturday, July 13, 2019, at his home, Ingalls, Kansas, surrounded by his family.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 3, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register form 5 to 7 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
He was born December 28, 1955, in Clark, the son of Donald Dean Barrie Sr. and Doris (Boynton) Loban. Dean was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. He later worked for the United States Fish and Wildlife Services managing wetlands for migratory birds. Dean retired from the USFWS after 17 years of service in October of 2013. Dean loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed anything outdoors including fishing and hunting. Dean enjoyed watching westerns and was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan and always up for a cocktail.
Dean was married to Brenda (Woodfork) Barrie for 18 years. She survives in Garden City, Kan.
Other survivors include his mother, Doris Loban of Dell Rapids; children, Tony Barrie of Kansas City, Mo., Lisa Barrie of Ingalls, Kan., and Lori (Jon) Bayne of Woodland Park, Colo.; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Kinner, Tony Dean (Tyler Chipley) Barrie Jr., Zachary Dean Barrie, and Isaac Ray Barrie; great-grandchildren, Jacoby, Xander, and Gabriel Kinner; siblings, Randy Barrie of Denver, Colo., Darla (Kevin) Stordahl of Dell Rapids, Lyla Jo (Kurt) Ver Meer of Sioux Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; father, Donald Dean Barrie Sr.; stepfather, Lyle Loban; sister, Sue Lemus; and sister-in-law, Sandy Barrie.
The family suggests memorials to The Veteran Council in Huron, in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kan. 67801.
