HURON — Georgia Beckwith, 86, of Huron, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Georgia Ann Elizabeth was born on Feb. 6, 1936, at Pierce, Neb., to George and Anna Herbolsheimer. The family moved to a farm near Osmond, Neb., in 1945. She graduated from Osmond Public School in 1953, and then attended Wayne State College summer sessions and study centers to earn her elementary teaching certificate. She then taught in a one room country school for three years.

Georgia met Dan Beckwith when they were in fourth grade, and they were married in June of 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. In December of that year, she joined her husband who had just been transferred from Hawaii to the naval air station at Hutchinson, Kan.

In 1958, the family moved to Wayne, Neb., so Dan could finish his college education. In 1961, the family moved to Mitchell where Dan taught school. In 1964, they moved to Aberdeen when Dan became employed by the Internal Revenue Service. After a transfer to Sioux Falls, they family made their final move to Huron in 1967.

During their married life together, Georgia and Dan raised four sons: Mark, Jim, Jeff and Eric. Georgia was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and taught Sunday School for many years while her boys were growing up. Georgia was employed at Osborn Clothing Company for many years and also worked at Merle Norman Cosmetics. When not at work, she enjoyed spending time at home working in her backyard, planting flowers, baking cakes and pies. Georgia was well known in her family for her delicious meals and cooking for her family.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Mark of Savannah, Ga., Jim of Huron, and Eric (Sheri) of Huron; a sister, Darlene Clark of Plainview, Neb.; brother-in-law, Bob (Debra) of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Margaret Clemans of Nebraska; five grandchildren, Jane (Rich) Ford, Charles Beckwith, Gavin (Sunny) Beckwith, Jessica (Scott) Beck, and Chelsey (Kyle) Knouse; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan Beckwith; her son, Jeffrey; and her daughter-in-law, Tracy Beckwith.
