TEA — Justin Lake, 42, passed unexpectedly Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home in Tea, with his family by his side.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service 7 p.m. at Miller Southside Funeral Chapel 7400 S. Minnesota Ave.

Justin Dean Lake was born May 6, 1978, in Sioux Falls to Jim Lake and Becky (Fox) Scotter. He attended school in Huron, graduating high school in 1996.

Following High school Justin continued his education in Business at Black Hills State University. Justin played football at BHSU and was an offensive lineman for the Yellow Jackets. Justin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at BHSU in 2018. After finishing college, he began his career with Vern Eide Motorcars in Sioux Falls, where he has worked for over the last 20 years.

Justin was very passionate about his career and always said it isn’t about selling cars but taking care of people.
On September 19, 2008, Justin was united in marriage with Amy Otten in Tea. Justin and Amy made their home in Tea and this is where they raised their son, Austin Lake, for the past 13 years.

He dedicated his life to taking care of Amy and Austin.
Justin was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, where he helped with the senior high school youth group. Justin was involved in Junior Achievement for several years. He also spent several years coaching his son’s junior football teams. Justin was a mentor to many youth in his community. He volunteered for many charities within his career for Vern Eide Motorcars. He was an active member in an Acura and Honda 20 group, where he made lifelong friends from across the United States.

Justin and Amy enjoyed traveling for Justin’s many work trips and especially enjoyed their trip to Thailand in December 2019. Justin’s true passion was coaching and watching his son, Austin in his many activities. Justin loved hunting, grilling, listening to music and hanging out drinking a Coors with his many friends. Justin’s favorite place to relax was at his families’ hunting lodge at Lake Byron. Justin loved training his dogs, Zeke and Izzy, who were like family to him. Justin lived in the moment and everything he did was “the best!” He had a true love for life.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Amy, and son, Austin of Tea; Jim and Barb Lake, parents, Sioux Falls; Curt and Darla Otten, in-laws, Tea; Justin and Chelsey (Scotter) Brock, sister, Huron; Nathan Scotter, brother, Huron; John and Eileen Andrejeski, brother Sioux Falls; Clint and Melissa Otten, brother-in-law, Tea; Clark and Sarah Slykhuis, sister-in-law, Tea; Aaron and Melissa Otten, brother-in-law, Tea; Shirley Scotter, grandma, Huron; eight nephews, four nieces, and countless friends who he considered his family.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Kenny Scotter; mother, Becky (Fox) Scotter; and grandmother, Karen Fox.
 In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Justin Lake College Scholarship Fund to be set up; in care of the family.
