HURON — Larraine J. Schimke, age 96, of Huron, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Weskota Manor, Wessington Springs.
Her life celebration is 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Her service will be livestreamed.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 prior to services Thursday morning at the funeral home.
Larraine J. Newell was born October 3, 1927, to George and Bernice (Bloodgood) Newell at Huron. Her family moved to Miller when Larraine was 11 years of age, and she attended school there. She babysat children in the area.
On October 6, 1946, she married Curtis Schimke at Miller. The newly married couple made their home at Wessington Springs. To this union, four children were born, Garry, Sandra, the late Melvin and Judy.
Larraine enjoyed sewing, gardening and loved music.
She is survived by her three children, Garry (LaVonne) Schimke of Sioux Falls, Sandra (Merle) Dahme of Sioux Falls and Judy Cummings of Huron; three grandchildren, Christi, Carrie and Lorraine; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kailey, Thaddeus and John.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis Schimke; one son, Melvin Schimke; all of her brothers and sisters, Harold (Mavis) Newell, Evelyn (Clarence) Wiese, Marie (Charles) Delvoux, Joyce (Mike) Walters, Alice (Fred) Dilley, Maxine (Charles) Padmore, Billy Newel and Loren Newell.
