WESSINGTON SPRINGS — LaVaughn Grieve, 88, of Wessington Springs, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at the Weskota Manor Avera in Wessington Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday December 20, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery rural Wessington Springs. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a scripture service at 7 p.m.
LaVaughn Theresa Geiver was born January 31, 1929, to Archie and Iola (Gandy) Geiver. She graduated from Miller High School in 1947, and attended Mitchell Business College. She worked for the State Public Welfare Department in Pierre until 1949.
She was united in marriage to Hollis E. Grieve November 2, 1949. They moved into Wessington Springs when Hollis was hired as a Rural Mail carrier.
She was a long time Watkins dealer, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society and S.D. Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Joyce (Rodney) Smith, Duane (Rebecca) Grieve, Eileen (Reed) Woodruff, Cindy (Todd) Westin, Lynette Grieve, Laurie (Lonnie) Smith, and Donovan Grieve; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Lottie Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis; one sister, three sisters-in-law and eight brothers-in-law.
