To the Editor:

October 1–7 is National 4H Week!

My name is Charleigh Brewer, I am a member of the Prairie Wranglers 4H Club and this will be my sixth year in 4H. There are a lot of great things about 4H, from giving back to Huron through community service projects, the excitement of winning ribbons at the county horse show, all the unique exhibits at Achievement Days and the State Fair, plus the variety of activities 4H has to offer from shooting sports to showing cattle.

But my mom is finally is going to let me write about the best part of 4H and that is RODEO! By far my favorite activity in 4H is all the summer rodeos. I usually go to as many of the regional rodeos as my parents will take me. We have gone to Burke, Sioux Falls, Highmore, Aberdeen, Sisseton, Watertown, Chamberlain, Clark, Blunt and of course, my favorite hometown rodeo here in Huron. The goal is to place in the top four in each event so you qualify for State 4H Finals.

I have made amazing friends through rodeo. We all love cheering each other on and hanging out together after the rodeos. The finals held in Fort Pierre is the most fun and what we all look forward to, with over 700 contestants from across South Dakota. You get to see a lot of friends and some family for three days. Four performances full of horses, goats, calves, bucking stock and everything there is to love about rodeo. If you are 8-to-18 years old and are interested in rodeo, you should check out 4H rodeo. I promise you will not be disappointed!
