To the Editor:

As I was driving Dakota Avenue this week, I noticed the gas price is under $2.90/gal. It’s projected to trend lower. “Gas Buddy” projected a savings of $1.2 billion for the American public over the Thanksgiving weekend compared to last year.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, EU and NATO countries boycotted Russia’s natural gas supplies, based on President Joe Biden’s promise to ship enough liquid natural gas to Europe to cover the shortfall. Many expressed doubt (especially Republicans - they hoped for failure.) No one went cold the last two years. Republicans disappointed.

Remarkably, the price of crude oil and natural gas has been sliding since OPEC cut production. It might be because the world’s biggest exporter of crude and natural gas for the last 18 months has been America.

Two things: 1. The one person of the one country able to transform NATO into a single-minded alliance to counter Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was America’s President Joe Biden. He has converted 30 different countries with many different opinions into an organization with a common goal. They have coordinated each country’s abilities, strengths and wealth into a potent response to Russia’s outrage.

Combine this with our president’s efforts in East Asia to blunt China’s threats is self-explanatory.

Oh yes, let’s not forget both the Arabs and Israelis look to President Biden for guidance. Never once has he made demands or ultimatums. It’s always suggestions, based on our past successes and mistakes.

Foreign policy in a shambles? We are not respected or liked? Really?
