SIOUX FALLS — Lorraine Bertha Mattie Laufmann, 96, formerly of Canova and Howard, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard. Burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
Lorraine was born September 9, 1921, near Howard to John and Hedwig (Hattie) (Voeltz) Haak. She attended country school and continued her education at Eastern State Teachers College in Madison.
She was united in marriage to Wilmer Laufmann June 18, 1947. The couple moved to Howard in 1981. She had been active in several Ladies Aid groups, book clubs, a women’s extension club, Farmers Union, American Legion Auxiliaries, and the senior center.
She is survived by her children, Linda Davis of Sioux Falls, Curtis of Gillette Wyo., Duane of Huron, Byron of Mitchell, Marla (James) Symes of Sioux Falls, Susan (Dale) Jacobs of Sioux Falls, and Robert (Janet) of Tucson Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren; brothers John (Joyce) Haak, and Harlon (Joyce) Haak both of Winfred; numerous nieces; nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law, Judy Laufmann; siblings, Gilbert, Elnora Callies, and Rosella Kreul.
