YANKTON — Maxine Rose Fischer, 92, of Yankton, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Avera Majestic Hospice House in Yankton.
A celebration of her life will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Yankton. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Maxine Rose Fischer was born July 3, 1926, in De Smet to Harry and Inez (Colman) McAdaragh. She graduated from De Smet High School and then received her teaching certificate in Madison. She was united in marriage to Merrit Nelson March 4, 1950. She married Arthur Fischer October 16, 1960.
She worked as a teacher, a teacher’s aide, and in retail before becoming the Coordinator for the Teen Volunteer Program at Sacred Heart Hospital. She retired in 1996. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She also worked with refugees and coordinated the Yankton Refugee Program.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Anne (Bill) Nelson-Loefke of Tabor, and Janet (Jack) Habick of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren; and brother, Dale McAdaragh (Jeri) of Wagner.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merrit Nelson; second husband, Arthur Fischer; three sisters; and one brother.
Monetary gifts will be donated to Pathways Shelter for the Homeless and River City Domestic Violence Center.
