HAYTI — Oscar “Gene” Carr, 63, of Hayti, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Sanford Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A Memorial Service will be 1 p.m, Tuesday, March 20, at the Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, with visitation starting at noon.
Oscar Eugene Carr was born October 10, 1954, in McMinnville, Tenn. to Oscar and Mary (Hillis) Carr. He attended McMinnville Central High and graduated in 1972. After graduation, he worked for EMJ Construction Corporation.
In 1977, he met Beatrice Liebnow while building the Huron Mall. The couple moved to Florence, S.C. where they were united in marriage July 6, 1979. The family moved to Huron and Brookings in 1997, and finally to Hayti.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Hayti; his son, Matt (Sara) Carr and their children, of Tea; siblings, Bobby (Pat) Carr of Ala., Margaret (Jim) Self, and Frank (Margaret) Carr of Tenn., Larry Carr of Miss., and Charlene and Darlene Carr of Tenn.; his brother-in-law, Dannie Johnson of Wentworth; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Herb) Carstens, and Audrey (Troy) Fuerstenau of Watertown; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog companions, Slick and Kassie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson; and his parents-in-law, Earl and Elaine Liebnow.
